Day 12 A Recent Accomplishment

day 12 - jm - recent accomplishment

This drawing depicts a moment last year when my daughter decided on her own to try eating cherries years after a bad experience with ingesting a cherry pit. She had been turned off cherries ever since. I’m not sure sure why she decided to try them but I would guess that it was because cherries are gorgeous. I was thrilled that she ended up loving cherries again.

A Confession About Color

cows

I’ve got a confession to make… I am afraid of color lately. There have been several pieces lately that have started out with happiness but once I’ve added color turned out badly. As a result I am gun-shy about color. These drawings now languish in black and white and I’d love to finish them up but just can’t bring myself to do it. Does anyone else have this issue?

Maybe it is serendipity because when I learned about the website, Doodlers Anonymous and their coloring book contest, I immediately thought of these drawings and submitted them to the contest. I am anxiously awaiting the results so please send happy vibes to DA.

Day 11 Turning Point in Your Life

day 11 - jm - turning point

My turning point in my life was when I became a mother. Once home from the hospital I recall sitting peacefully with my daughter and feeling that “this is what I was born to do.” Being a mother became the central point for every decision that I’ve made since then. But you can’t forget to take care of yourself along the way. A happy person makes for a better parent.

Day 10 Favorite Candy

day 10 - jm -favorite candy

I must apologize for neglecting this blog. I’ve two other blogs that I’m actually maintaining:

Here I’ll showcase some of my other artistic endeavors in addition to the 30 Day Drawing Challenge. My kids lost interest in this challenge after day 9 so from now on it’ll just be my artwork. I wonder if there has been any studies about the addictive quality of blogging?

Day 9 Favorite TV Show

I’m rather partial to Canadian or British television shows. Corner Gas is kind of an obsession in our house. Whenever, there’s nothing interesting to watch we end up watching Corner Gas. I bought all the seasons on DVD for my husband last Christmas… a solid investment.

My son loves Scooby Doo. Didn’t he do a great job on his drawing? I asked him what Daphne was wearing and he answered that it was a suit. Not the usual attire for Daphne but creative nonetheless.

My daughter has learned her taste in television from me apparently as she spent the summer watching the BBC series, Merlin. It’s a great show for adults and kids.

What’s your favorite TV show? I’m always looking for new shows to watch.

Day 8 Favorite Animated Character

My favorite animated character comes from my childhood spent in the 1980’s. The kids are a little more up-to-date.

Day 7 Favorite Word

I’d been looking forward to Day 7 since the start of this challenge. Love makes the world go round!

The selections by the kids were interesting but not at all surprising. My daughter calls our cat Fuzz even though that’s not her name and my son is generally concerned with being nice.

Day 6 A Character from a Book

This was a difficult one because I wanted to draw a character that would be family friendly but most of our favorite kid’s books have been made into movies. I wanted to avoid undue influence upon my imagination. I chose to draw Mrs. Whatsit from A Wrinkle in Time, one of my favorite all-time books.

My daughter chose to draw Max-Ernest from The Secret Series which we highly recommend but you didn’t hear about it from us. My son is a huge fan of Hermione from the Harry Potter series.

Who would you have chosen to draw?

Day 5 Best Friend

Portraits are hard. Especially when it’s of a person you know. I apologize to my friend in this portrait for the weirdness of it. I copied from a profile photo on her Facebook page. I’ve been friends with A since I was 12 years old. The drawing of her below is from my journal from when I was a teenager and it’s one of my favorite sketches.

The drawing done by the kids were interesting. My daughter chose a teacher’s aide who jokes around by calling out to her, “Hey best friend” whenever she saw her at school. My son drew a photo of his best friend, a girl who recently moved away but the second girl in the drawing is his representation of himself when he plays a certain game with her. What imagination!

Day 4 Favorite Place

My favorite place is a beach in Nova Scotia but one where we can walk and find sea glass. We’ve collected so much of it that I feel like a sea glass hoarder. This time my son surprised me by drawing a picture of Ottawa as one of his favorite places. We’ve only been there once as a family 3 years ago but I guess it made a big impression on him. His other favorite place is a pier in Cape Cod where we go to get ice cream. My daughter loves Cape Cod and I would say it’s near the top of my list for favorite place as well.
